Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell - AReview

Lisa Jewell is great at creating an unsettling vibe, and the mystery around Ellie’s disappearance pulled me in right away. I liked how the story slowly reveals pieces of the past and lets things fall into place little by little.

That said, the middle dragged for me, and some of the choices characters made were frustrating rather than compelling. I figured out where things were heading earlier than I would’ve liked, which took some of the tension away. The emotional impact was there, but it didn’t hit as hard as I expected given the subject matter.

Overall, this was readable and held my attention, but it didn’t leave a lasting impression. It’s a decent mystery with a dark edge, just not one that fully stuck the landing for me.
