Femininity

I have been reading the very interesting book on relationships. The foundation of the book is about being feminine. Frills, lace and the works. Why is it that we have gone so far away from the foundations of historical womanhood? These foundations were here for so, so long? I know it seems old fashioned now but maybe they had a reason, just maybe. Remember Gone With the Wind? Scarlet was practically the heathen and so very unfeminine compared to the other females in the film. But by today’s standards Scarlet was way more feminine than the average female woman in the U. S. today. Very, very much so I would say. When was it that we decided that we did not want to be set aside from the men? Why is it again that we should want to be treated as they are? Why do we want to blend in with them? Do you really want other men to treat you like the other men? I too appreciate a tee shirt and comfy pair of jeans. I always fix my hair and wear very light makeup. I care about how I look. When I get all dolled up though, I feel good. I feel special. Very simple changes in my wardrobe may just have a very positive effect on my personal self image. I hope to make the hour away trip to a Goodwill next paycheck and I will purchase a few items that are not exactly what I think are “my style” and see for myself what I think. I bought a black ruffled blouse last weekend and wore it out on our “hot date.” I was shocked that Kevin loved it so much. Shocked, I say. I never would have thought it. Hmm, it certainly is something to think about, isn’t it?

Socks

I like socks. Funky socks. Different socks. Not socks with individual toes though. No way. But I do like socks. I adore GAP socks and Target socks. They come in all kinds of patterns and colors. I only care for the crew length socks though. The short socks are great for summer but always slide down into your shoe resulting in the constant finger in the arch fishing it out… not my favorite way to spend time. Knee socks just roll down. Possibly as irritating as the slouches mentioned earlier. I also like clean socks. I cannot conceivable put on a pair of already worn socks. If however I only wear them for a few minutes and take them off it is imperative that they go on the same foot. But I am sure you do that too, right? Or else they do not fit right. They stick out too far over the little toe and bunch up when I put my shoe on. The socks must contain at least 50% cotton too of course… they get itchy and hot otherwise. The toe must be sewn properly too. I still do not understand why they don’t sew them inside out. After all, who really sees the toes of your socks? That part is all about comfort right? The upper part though is all about personal expression. I say, “Go for it.” So go out to the nearest Target or Gap and get you a pair of funky feel good socks! Oh BTW I have never paid more than $2.00 a pair. Ever. If you are a sock connoisseur you understand that that is a very, very good deal for a great sock!! Okay, now that you think I am
absolutely nuts…. I’m done.

A Repost LIGHTNING STORM IN FLORIDA

In July of 2008, Kevin, A, Ki and myself ventured to the zoo in Pensacola, Florida! We arrived and within ten minutes the most wicked storm imaginable rolled in! Oh my.  We sought shelter with the otters in a very, very stinky covering. Lightning unbelievable! Everywhere! And I am NOT exaggerating! Everywhere! We were very, very nervous!

We waited for about 40 minutes for it to slack off and decided we really HAD to make a break for it and get out of the danger zone. NOT SMART! Ki and I ran in the direction of the main gate followed by Daddy and A. Then it happened! We heard a sizzle, sizzle, crack and my hair stood on end then lightning struck the goat’s roof about 15 feet away! YIKES!!!

Kevin and A (completely hysterical) ran back into the small otter covering while I tried to scoop up Ki fighting her umbrella, she was just so shocked! Finally we got back to the covering. MY OH MY!

We hung out there again while the lightning continued popping everywhere on the metal roof coverings of the animal shelters.

Finally, we again made a break for the entrance. It only took about one minute to reach it, but wow. The zoo staff was VERY happy to see us. I wonder if the girls will ever want to return??

Razors

Calling all Ladies!
What kind of razor do you use? Seriously. Do you use disposable razors? If so, what brand? Or do you switch around like me. I buy the designer elite brand then realize that they don't last more than two shavings and couldn't cut a warm stick of butter, so go back to the cheapy brand, which works great as long as I remember which one to get. But then I forget which ones to get the next time I purchase and get a cheap brand that nicks and give me razor bumps so I revert back to the elite "pricey" ones, which couldn't cut a warm stick of butter, so I get the cheapy brand, which works great as long as I remember which one to get.... and the maddening cycle continues!!! So, seriously..... what do you use??

Chicken and Dumplings

Chicken and Dumplings

Recipe courtesy Sandra Lee
Source
Level: Easy
Serves:4 servings

Ingredients

  • 4 pounds chicken leg quarters
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 4 carrots, sliced
  • 3 celery stalks, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/2 (8-ounce) package sliced mushrooms
  • 1 cup frozen corn
  • 2 (14-ounce) cans chicken broth
  • Water
  • 1 cup baking mix
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1/3 cup milk

Directions

Separate the chicken legs from the thighs, and season with salt and pepper, to taste. Coat the pieces with the flour, shaking off any excess and reserve the leftover flour. Put the oil into a heavy bottomed skillet and heat it over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and brown it on all sides, about 5 minutes per side. Remove the chicken to a plate and add the carrots, celery, onion, mushrooms, and corn. Sprinkle with the reserved flour, and give it a good stir. Add chicken broth and stir. Nestle the chicken pieces into the vegetables and add enough water to just cover the chicken. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
Just before the cooking time is up combine the baking mix, poultry seasoning, and milk in a small bowl. Drop the batter by tablespoons on top of the simmering chicken leaving some room between the dumplings. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes. Serve hot.
